Asus TUF FX505D || Durable & Affordable Gaming Laptop

July 12, 2019

all right so this is the new tough series of entry-level budget-friendly durable gaming laptops from Asus and I'm gonna be totally honest to me this is a really strange laptop series anyways it's a pretty solid device even if it does feel so plasticky you'd think it was made by fisher-price but continuing with the plastic feel we've got a plastic faux brushed metal lid along with a keyboard deck and bottom panel it is what it is there's a bunch of i/o on the left side and only the left side we got the barrel connector port HDMI 2.0 and audio combo port 2 USB 3.1 ports and one USB 2.0 port it's right USB 2.0 not even a single USBC 20:19 ok but displays a 1080p 15 inch IPS LCD panel with 120 Hertz refresh which is great for gaming but the color gamut suck I mean if all you're doing is playing games I guess it's not that big a deal but if you're watching content you're gonna see inaccurate skin tones crappy contrast and so on just not a stellar viewing experience oh and if I could just nitpick real quick the hinges are crazy tight like why the full keyboard is actually pretty decent and there's a bit of flex but it's not like it affects my typing umm it's got a really nice travel distance at around 1.8 millimeters it's RGB backlit and should be able to be adjusted through the or app but I say should because I literally can't adjust anything like nothing works except for the brightness adjustment keys on the keyboard it is what it is the click style trackpads a nice touch but the clicks are sort of cheap feeling and even though it's using Windows drivers the type of plastic they use not only shows fingerprints like bodily fluids into a UV light it also causes finger stutters so it hasn't given me the smoothest experience there's a couple of speakers on each side nothing good to say about them sorry guys but hey popping off the bottom panel shows how much access they gave us and stuff like the cooling assembly looks like it's just begging to be popped off to repays the GPU and CPU both in slots are right there there's a two and a half inch storage bay with the wireless card underneath the PCIe m2 slot at side note the wireless card is made by real tech it's not the greatest I'd probably look at upgrading it finally there's a small 48 one hour battery that only gave me just under three hours at max brightness with just normal everyday tasks Asus did a pretty decent job with the cooling there's vents on the deck above the keyboard exhausting area out the back it also doesn't hurt that the CPU they went with is the new AMD 3000 series 3750 age which has a max TDP of only 35 watts but stress testing the CPU and GPU together push the GPU to a pretty stable 72 degrees Celsius and the CPU up to 91 which is fairly hot but then quickly settled down to around 85 and stayed there and that's with maintaining an average all core boost clock a 3.8 gigahertz so not bad for a worst case scenario not bad then while gaming the highest the CPU gone was 84 degrees and 72 on the GPU at max fan speeds which was fairly loud but not as bad as some of the big boy laptops out there gaming performance on this particular config has actually been pretty decent for competitive titles but even with the low settings it still can't reach that 120 fps to match the display is refresh rate partly because it's only running a gtx 1650 but mainly cuz it's only running 8 gigs of ram in single channel running an additional 8 gigs and dual channel would have made a massive difference so it's a bit disappointing to have 120 hertz display when the system can't even hit those frame rates on most modern competitive titles not to mention it's not a g-sync display so there's a bit of noticeable screen tearing and some ghosting due to low response times for the specs I think it's priced fairly except for having to pay for that hundred and twenty Hertz display so I'd rather see you spend the extra 200 bucks and go for the configuration that comes with a gtx 1660 TI 16 gigs of ram and way more storage it's a much better value for the money at 1100 bucks which will give you a mass performance gained over the one I have here and allow you to hit that 120 FPS mark and competitive titles anyways those are my thoughts on this one it's in an odd laptop series with the potential for decent performance if you go for almost any other configuration than the one I have here the CPU is certainly more than capable that said drop me a comment and let me know what you consider your minimum requirements for an entry-level budget gaming laptop it'll help me pick which budget laptops you guys want to see in the future but that's it for this one if you enjoyed the video show me some love with that like button subscribe if you're new to my stuff and don't forget to follow me on Instagram to find out what I'm up to next but thanks as always for watching and I'll talk to you on the next one Cheers

For the RGB Keyboard you'll need to go the the Armoury Crate select the gamepad option from top left and then go to system from there go to lighting, you can change RGB color from it..

I don't get the point of ramming about Trackpad on laptops unless you're reviewing an Ultrabook.. Gamers will always use a Mouse and I have never used the trackpad on my laptop in like ever!

USB 2.0 in 2019 and all the I/O ports on one side is just too dumb to me, not worth it in my opinion regardless of the price
